CRM and marketing platform for building customer relationships

Quote-based pricing, typically starting in the low hundreds of dollars per month per location for the core plan and increasing with AI, payments, and marketing modules. There are no published self-serve tiers, so request a quote for current numbers.
Podium is a customer communication and revenue platform for local businesses, built on the observation that most buying conversations now happen over text rather than by phone call or email. It consolidates messaging, review requests, listings, payments and marketing into a single system sold per location, and in recent versions it puts an AI employee in front of the inbox to answer and convert leads around the clock. The product is aimed at small and mid-sized businesses that live or die on inbound leads — home services, automotive dealers and repair shops, dental and medical practices, retail stores, legal firms, real estate, restaurants and franchise networks.
The unified inbox is the foundation. Business texting, messages from the website webchat widget, Facebook and Instagram Messenger, Google Business Profile messages, and email threads all arrive in one conversation view shared by the whole team. Conversations can be assigned, tagged, moved through a pipeline, escalated, and annotated with internal notes, and managers get reporting on response times and volume per employee. For a business where the owner was the only person answering texts from a personal phone, moving to a shared business number with a team inbox changes both coverage and accountability.
Podium AI Employee is the most distinctive part of the current offering. It is an assistant attached to a location that responds to inbound webchat and text enquiries within seconds, answers questions from a knowledge base the business configures, qualifies leads, schedules appointments against a calendar, sends estimates or price ranges, requests reviews and follows up with people who stopped replying. The commercial claim is that a majority of inbound leads go unanswered or answered too slowly to matter, and that a text channel answered instantly converts at a materially higher rate than a voicemail box. In practice the quality of the setup determines the result, and the assistant needs reviewed guardrails around pricing, medical or legal advice, and any commitment the business would not want made automatically.
Review management is the second reason businesses buy. Podium sends review invitations by text at a chosen moment — after a job is closed, a delivery is signed for, an appointment ends — and links the customer directly to the profile the business wants to grow, typically Google, then Facebook and vertical directories. Review volume and recency are among the strongest controllable inputs to local pack visibility, and a text invitation converts far better than an email because it lands on a device the customer is already holding. Reviews from across networks are aggregated into one dashboard with alerts on low ratings, and staff can respond without leaving the platform.
Payments convert the same conversation into revenue. Podium supports text-to-pay, payment links sent inside a thread, a virtual terminal for phone orders, saved cards for recurring billing, invoicing and deposit collection, and it ties a payment request to the customer record so the history of a relationship — messages, invoices, reviews — sits in one place. For service businesses that previously emailed a PDF invoice and waited, removing friction at the point of payment is a direct working-capital improvement.
Marketing tools layer campaigns on top of the contact list: mass texts to segmented audiences, drip follow-ups, birthday and win-back automations, offers and re-engagement of past customers. Listings management keeps name, address, phone, hours and photos consistent across search engines, maps and directories, monitoring for duplicates and drift. Surveys capture Net Promoter Score or job-completion satisfaction and route unhappy responses internally before they reach a public review site, which is the compliant approach given that Google's policies prohibit gating who may leave a public review.
Integrations connect Podium to systems a local business already runs: Shopify and other commerce platforms, CRMs including HubSpot and Salesforce, vertical job-management and field service systems, scheduling tools, plus a developer API and Zapier-style automation for custom flows. The practical value is trigger-based automation, so when a job is marked complete in the field service system a review request and a follow-up offer go out without anyone remembering to do it.
Compared with competitors, Podium is the messaging-first, AI-forward option. Birdeye is the closest equivalent and is stronger on breadth of listings, social publishing and enterprise multi-location reporting, which is why it tends to win larger franchise and brand deals. Reputation.com, merged with Vendasta, competes above Podium on customer experience analytics and reaches smaller businesses through agencies and resellers. NiceJob and Grade.us are cheaper and narrower, focused on review generation alone. Thryv and Keap serve the same audience with a CRM-plus-marketing shape rather than a text inbox shape. Podium's differentiator is the speed of its conversation layer and the AI employee's willingness to hold an entire inbound lead conversation without a human.
Podium has historically published pricing rather than hiding it behind a quote. The last public structure was a Core plan and a Pro plan sold per location on annual billing, with Core around three hundred and ninety-nine dollars per month and Pro around five hundred and ninety-nine dollars per month, the higher tier adding features such as the AI employee capacity, advanced automation, additional user seats and premium support. Podium has restructured its packaging several times and now sells AI Employee features prominently, so current plan names, prices, seat limits, message credit allowances and contract length should be confirmed directly with their sales team before budgeting. A free trial is typically offered.
The limitations are worth understanding. It is priced for businesses with meaningful inbound volume, and a single-location business with a handful of leads a month will struggle to justify a four-figure annual cost. Annual contracts are standard. It is strongest in the United States and a small number of other English-speaking markets, and international businesses should verify local number availability and SMS delivery before committing. Sending texts at scale brings regulatory obligations: A2P 10DLC registration in the United States, express consent under TCPA rules, opt-out handling and quiet-hour restrictions are the business's responsibility, and Podium's tooling helps but does not absolve it. AI employee output needs supervision early on, and message credit caps on lower tiers can turn into overage costs for high-volume senders.
Podium fits local businesses with steady inbound lead volume whose revenue depends on responding quickly — home services, dental and veterinary practices, auto dealers, gyms, salons, contractors, real estate teams — and multi-location groups that want a shared inbox and consistent review generation across sites. It does not fit ecommerce brands focused on product reviews and post-purchase flows, B2B software companies, businesses with no local search presence, or anyone needing month-to-month pricing without an annual commitment.
Against alternatives, the choice comes down to where the bottleneck is. If the problem is unanswered leads and slow follow-up, Podium's messaging and AI employee attack it most directly. If the problem is multi-location brand consistency, deep listings coverage and executive reporting, Birdeye is usually the stronger fit. If the problem is simply getting more Google reviews at the lowest cost, a focused review tool will do the job for a fraction of the spend. Podium earns its price when faster conversations measurably produce more booked jobs and paid invoices, which for the right business is easy to verify within the first quarter of use.
